In this book that features an adorable cat experiencing some BIG FEELINGS, Barney Saltzberg normalizes the emotion of anger for readers.

Sometimes, things happen that make us mad. For us and for loved ones, this can feel a little scary or uncomfortable.

Sometimes, things they do can help us feel better, but other times, we may just need some time by our lonesome, to make the mad feelings go away.

When faced with an upset youngster, it’s tempting as caregivers to do whatever we can to make the mad feelings go away, including acquiescing to things we should not be. Though these temporary measures may help in the short term, they don’t teach us to cope with our big feelings. Instead, we can give it time, knowing that soon, they will start to feel better.

The author encourages readers to feel how they feel, knowing they are “okay the way they are.” This book may be helpful in introducing the topic of emotions to children, teaching that feelings can/ do change, and what to do when we feel big feelings.
